The next TOMATIS® Practitioner Level 1 course will take place in Auckland on 4 - 5 May 2019. Email email@example.com for more information.
MICHAEL BLAKE is a Tomatis Practitioner Level 1 who began teaching in England where he taught private students and students of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and of the Marylebone Voice and Therapy Unit. Since returning to New Zealand in 1995, Michael has mentored and coached singers at the University of Auckland, the University of Waikato and at High Schools in Cambridge, Taupo and Tauranga. Currently he teaches theory, harmony and vocal studies to Certificate and Diploma students in Contemporary Music courses, as he continues his mentoring work.
Michael first discovered Dr Tomatis’ work when his wife Glenese was researching the healing effects of sounding, toning and chanting for her Master’s degree in vocal therapy. With a background in classical music, Michael is very familiar with the music chosen by Dr Tomatis for the TalksUp® programmes and can explain to people who find the music “scratchy” why that is and why these pieces were chosen.
Michael left working in the business world as a senior executive and concentrated on his passion for working with teenagers and young adults, having an ability to create a safe rapport with young students. He works as a performance psychologist and counsellor, especially with High School and University / Tertiary students who want to learn more about themselves, their passions and their purpose. Michael also coaches senior executives, runs workshops on vocal performance, and on breathing and stress management.
Michael uses the Forbrain® with young vocal students who have pitching issues and is delighted to know that an extended microphone is being developed so he can work with instrumentalists as well.
With an interest in neuroplasticity, Michael has developed a network of other professionals who have similar interests, particularly in the Feldenkrais Method® and in neuroscience.
Michael is currently studying for his Level 2 certification, which will allow him to expand from the initial work with Forbrain and TalksUp® even further.
